Rotary North Harbour are now building and progressively installing Water Walls in selected North Harbour Playcentres.

Following on from the previous very successful projects of building; Ride-on Sandpit Diggers and Tip Trucks, the team at Rotary North Harbour are now building and progressively installing Water Walls in selected North Harbour Playcentres. These have been designed by project leader, Past President David Hutcheson, based on a full size plywood sheet, onto which has been glued a thin sheet of galvanised steel. After careful undercoating the sheets have then been painted by the children of Rotarian Anthony Gobbie, in some very fanciful and multi-coloured designs.
The walls are then completed by adding magnetised pieces of painted spouting and further brackets holding a clear funnel and another with a waterwheel attached. These walls are extremely tactile and are providing hours of play and education for the little ones. The children learn about gravity and some simple physics with the flow of the water and interaction with the attachments.
We have completed and installed ten thus far, with a further six to eight to come. We will also be sending some to the far north, where we have an interest in supporting the lower decile education facilities.
