Trent grew up in Auckland and after graduating in science and engineering, spent 30 years as an international businessman starting up and building businesses in six different countries: he is currently a business and management consultant. He has four grown children living in New Zealand and Canada, one of whom is a doctor and a specialist in Cardiac Anaesthesiology and has two grandchildren in Canada.
